I can't begin to tell you what a blessing it's been to work with the wonderful authors involved in the Fall Into Romance collection. I'm going to be chatting with one of these amazing people each week leading up to the release of Fall Into Romance. I hope you enjoy these interviews as much as I have! Chatting with Raine English At Second Glance Hi, Raine! I'm so glad that you could join us today to share about your novella. It's such a fun story! Melanie: Romance, Oregon is a beautiful place with a small-town atmosphere and big personalities. If you could visit Romance yourself, what one shop or person would you want to make sure was on your itinerary? Raine: My first stop would have to be Finding Forever Animal Rescue, and, of course, I couldn’t leave without adopting a dog. Melanie: Animals are a big part of the stories that make up our Fall Into Romance compilation. Tell us a little about the critter(s) in your novella. Raine: Tank is a black mask fawn French bulldog. He becomes grumpy and unhappy when his family releases him to Finding Forever because they couldn’t deal with both a dog and a baby. However, things start to look up for Tank when Claire, Brent’s cousin and an expert on the breed, takes an interest in the Frenchie. Melanie: Which of the characters in your story do you relate to the most? Why is that? Raine: Definitely Claire! She’s a huge dog lover and has this incredible understanding of French bulldogs, which just happens to be my favorite breed. Melanie: How many pets do you have? Tell us a little about them. Raine: I have two French bulldogs. I’m sure that’s not a surprise. Bailey is a grumpy old man and was my inspiration for Tank. Dolly is the complete opposite of Bailey. She was a rescue and is as sweet as can be. The two years that she’s been a member of the family has improved Bailey’s disposition immeasurably. Melanie: Which season of the year do you look forward to the most? Raine: I love fall. I live in New England. Summers can be pretty muggy, so I really look forward to the cool, crisp fall air. I also love when the leaves on the trees change color. It’s just beautiful. Melanie: Coffee, hot cocoa, or tea. Which do you prefer during the fall and winter? Raine: Coffee! All year long. Melanie: There are a lot of wonderful pumpkin-flavored treats at the Fall Festival in Romance. Do you like pumpkin? If so, what’s your favorite pumpkin-flavored food? Raine: I’m addicted to Pumpkin Spice Lattes. I can't begin to tell you what a blessing it's been to work with the wonderful authors involved in the Fall Into Romance collection. I'm going to be chatting with one of these amazing people each week leading up to the release of Fall Into Romance. I hope you enjoy these interviews as much as I have! Chatting with Kit Morgan Lessons in Romance Thanks for joining me, Kit! I absolutely loved your story. Sir Lancelot and Merlin are awesome, and I know the readers will love them, too. Melanie: Romance, Oregon is a beautiful place with a small-town atmosphere and big personalities. If you could visit Romance yourself, what one shop or person would you want to make sure was on your itinerary? Kit: For me I’d like to visit Pages of Romance. Why? Because I’m a bibliophile! Hey, it’s a bookstore! I’d also like to meet Brent Todd and tell him about my little sister who was also bringing home stray animals all the time and if, say, this was not a fictional world, she’d have ended up working there! Melanie: Animals are a big part of the stories that make up our Fall Into Romance compilation. Tell us a little about the critters in your novella. Kit: Golly, what can I say about Sir Lancelot and Merlin? Other than they’re a rooster and a tortoise? But growing up we did have chickens and turtles, which is why I picked those two particular animals. (Even though technically Merlin is a tortoise.) Again, my sister, had the turtles, (not to mention a baby alligator) while our mother had her chickens. Marijo would let the turtles out into the yard and the chickens would occasionally come through, hang out for a while, and then wander elsewhere. For the record, chickens aren’t particularly interested in turtles. Probably because they can’t eat them, and vice versa. Melanie: Which of the characters in your story do you relate to the most? Why is that? Kit: I’d have to say Jenny, the heroine. There was a time I knew nothing about dating and sought books on the subject. In fact, relationships fascinated me so much I became a certified Relationship Coach. Melanie: What was your favorite part about writing your novella? Kit: The fact I was writing a contemporary romance. I write western historical romance for the most part and this was my second contemporary. Melanie: If you had to describe the town of Romance with one word, what would it be? Kit: Homey Melanie: Which fall holiday do you look forward to more: Halloween or Thanksgiving? Kit: Definitely Thanksgiving. For one, I love to cook. Two, no one can find us on Halloween. We’ve had our house for fifty years (family home) and only got one trick or treater, and that’s only because they were lost. Melanie: There are a lot of wonderful pumpkin-flavored treats at the Fall Festival in Romance. Do you like pumpkin? If so, what’s your favorite pumpkin-flavored food? Kit: Pumpkin Cookies! Melanie: What state do you live in? What’s the weather like there in the fall? Kit: I live in Oregon! In fact, I’ve been to the town Romance is patterned after! I know it. For those who have never been here, fall is a great time of year (until it starts raining and the water doesn’t shut off until sometime in late June). I’m in the infamous Willamette Valley which is beautiful in the fall. Once fall officially starts on the calendar though, it can start to get nippy out. But I do love the smells of fall, that sharp tang in the air, the warmer afternoons and chilly nights. Where’s my pumpkin cookie recipe? A consistent Top 100 lists bestseller, Kit Morgan, aka Geralyn Beauchamp, has been writing for fun all of her life. When writing as Geralyn Beauchamp, her books are epic, adventurous, romantic fantasy at its best. When writing as Kit Morgan they are whimsical, fun, inspirational sweet and clean stories that depict a strong sense of family and community. 'His Prairie Princess' is the first of the Prairie Brides books and the first in the series of a long line of stories about Clear Creek, Oregon. One of the wackiest little towns in the old west! Get to know the townsfolk in Clear Creek and come sit a spell! Lessons in Romance A rooster, a tortoise and love, oh my! Jenny Sullivan is finishing up school in Romance, Oregon. She’s also homesick in Romance, meets a man in Romance, and now needs lessons in romance to boot! If she hadn’t gone to the Finding Forever Rescue Shelter’s annual fall festival, she wouldn’t be in this mess! If only she wasn’t so romantically impaired, she might be able to get out of it. Andy Cotton wasn’t looking for love and no wonder. After his last disastrous relationship, he wasn’t keen on being tripped up by another. But when a woman shows up during his volunteer shift at the local animal shelter’s fall festival to adopt something, um … different, he began to reconsider. And lucky for him, he just happened to have something very different indeed. Now if he could just find some of that same luck to win her… Fall Into Romance - Pre-Order for Only $0.99! My latest book, Marrying Mandy, is up for nominations on Kindle Scout. If you're unfamiliar with Kindle Scout, you can go there to nominate books that you'd like to read. If Amazon chooses to offer that author a publishing contract for the book, you'll receive a free copy delivered right to your Kindle. I'd appreciate it if you'd head over to Kindle Scout, read the excerpt available, and if you'd like to read more, please nominate Marrying Mandy. Thank you so much! Mandy Hudson swore she'd never marry. Abandoned by her parents and raised by her grandparents, she has a hard time trusting that real love will last. When her grandmother dies, Mandy's shocked to discover a stipulation in the will. Considering marriage to her best friend may be the only way to keep her family's beloved bed-and-breakfast.
The loss of his job threatens Preston Yarrow's shaky financial stability. Besides, he can't watch his best friend give up the only real home she's ever known. Frustrated by Mandy's stubborn refusal to let him help, he's certain they are stronger together than they are apart. A marriage of convenience might be crazy... or an answer to both their prayers. Where's your favorite place to read? I'm not talking about reading on the fly or catching a page or two between dinner and doing the dishes. I'm referring to relaxing with a glass of lemonade or a cup of coffee while you turn page after page of a book that you can't tear yourself away from. For me, it usually means I'm kicking my feet up while relaxing in my recliner. It's comfortable, but sometimes I dream about having a dedicated library and reading room. You know what I'm talking about: That room with enough shelves to house all of your favorite books, plus a place to lounge that's almost impossible to make yourself get up from. I recently discovered the furniture created by Arhaus. All of the pieces are made from natural materials and absolutely gorgeous! After much online drooling and daydreaming, I created the perfect reading, writing, library room. If money were no object, this is what I'd want my room to look like: The Library Wall Okay, if I'm going to create a reading room, I have to start with the library. The moment I saw these bookshelves, I knew I'd choose two or three of them to line one wall. I think the ladder for these bookcases is perfect and makes me picture a library that Belle would be proud of. I've always been a fan of darker woods, and this shade looks beautiful. The Reading Corner For the reading corner, I wasn't sure if I wanted a recliner or something larger to sit on. I browsed through the selection of sectionals and sofas. That's when I saw this Brentwood sectional and thought it would be a great combination of comfort and style. There's enough room for more than one person to sit on it in case I'm not the only one enjoying the library. The lounger is great for relaxing while reading for a while. I thought some kind of table nearby would be great, but I'm one of those people who likes tables that are more on the functional side. I thought a cool chest like this would be a great addition. A Place to Write As an author, where better to put my desk than the library? It's the perfect place to gain inspiration from my favorite books resting on the shelves around me. The desk here would be perfect, along with a long shelf on the wall above it. That way, I can have my reference books close by along with the large number of super hero figurines that I have on my current desk. Yes, there's no doubt that the area around my desk would be a nerd paradise. lol The chair I have below looks super comfortable, and a pretty lamp would help light up the area. Yes, I do believe that this would be the perfect writing space! There you have it: My dream library and writing space. I would probably crochet myself a large afghan to drape over the back of the sectional so I could cuddle under that while reading on a chilly day. And, depending on how big of a room I had to work with, I might choose some kind of curio cabinet. Then I'd be able to collect even more super hero and other sit arounds.
Maybe, one of these days, I can turn this dream space into a reality! What about you? Browse through the Arhaus online store and tell me what piece of furniture you'd include in your dream library or reading space. I can't begin to tell you what a blessing it's been to work with the wonderful authors involved in the Fall Into Romance collection. I'm going to be chatting with one of these amazing people each week leading up to the release of Fall Into Romance. I hope you enjoy these interviews as much as I have! Chatting with Tamie Dearen Restoring Romance I'm so glad you can be here, Tamie! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Restoring Romance. The characters and story were so much fun! Melanie: Romance, Oregon is a beautiful place with a small-town atmosphere and big personalities. If you could visit Romance yourself, what one shop or person would you want to make sure was on your itinerary? Tamie: Since I love antiques, I wouldn’t want to miss visiting Adam Walker’s antiques and restoration store, Good As Old. Adam is the mayor of Romance Oregon, but his passion is finding and restoring beauty to old and neglected pieces of furniture. Melanie: Animals are a big part of the stories that make up our Fall Into Romance compilation. Tell us a little about the critters in your novella. Tamie: In Restoring Romance, Ash, a transplant to Romance from New York City, adopts a large, ugly cat named Lucky, much to the chagrin of Adam, who happens to have a violent feline allergy. Adam, in turn, adopts a large dog—Kujo—with a bark that makes Lucky yowl in fear. Melanie: Which of the characters in your story do you relate to the most? Why is that? Tamie: I suppose I most relate to Donna Walker, who has a large dinner gathering at her house every Sunday night. My husband and I do the same thing every Thursday night, except that our gathering is made up of college and graduate students instead of family. Melanie: What about writing your novella was the most challenging? Tamie: This is the shortest romance I’ve ever written, so my biggest challenge was sticking to the word limit without skimping on the plot or character development. I had to cut a few scenes, but in the end, I gleaned the very best for this story. Melanie: What state do you live in? What’s the weather like there in the fall? Tamie: I live in Texas, where we don’t have much of a fall, but it’s a dream of mine to spend a year some place like Oregon, where I can truly experience all the seasons. Melanie: Coffee, hot cocoa, or tea. Which do you prefer during the fall and winter? Tamie: I love the smell of coffee, but not the taste. I’m a tea girl, all the way. I drink hot tea every single morning, summer or winter. However, my husband makes the best hot cocoa in the world, a special treat I save for evenings around the fire in the winter. Melanie: There are a lot of wonderful pumpkin-flavored treats at the Fall Festival in Romance. Do you like pumpkin? If so, what’s your favorite pumpkin-flavored food? Tamie: For a special treat at Thanksgiving, we sometimes have pumpkin soup, baked in the pumpkin shell. Simply cut off the top, scoop out the seeds, and fill the pumpkin with chicken broth. Then replace the lid and roast it in the oven. When serving, scoop out a bit of the pumpkin meat with the broth. It’s beautiful and yummy! Melanie: When you go to a festival or fair, is there a particular type of food you look forward to getting that you don’t usually buy at any other time? Tamie: My favorite “fair” food is probably roasted corn on the cob. The corn is cooked inside the husk, which is peeled down to make a handle. Then the cob is placed back on the fire to give the corn a little char. Served with butter and salt, it’s a mouth-watering treat. Tamie Dearen has been married to her very romantic husband since 1982. They have two beautiful daughters, two amazing son-in-laws, and one awesome grandson. She plays piano, flute, harmonica, keyboards, and guitar, and loves composing and art. And she hates housework. A dentist in private practice for thirty years, Tamie stays busy playing on her church's praise team and teaching graduate students each week. In her spare time, she escapes the real world by writing books. Tamie met her husband as a freshman in college when she acted out of character on a whim. One night in the library lobby, she spied a cute guy with his first name written on the back of his shirt. She called out his name. When he approached to talk to her, she pretended that she'd met him before, asking about his classes and how he liked college. To her surprise and delight, he also pretended that he knew her, but of course he didn't know her name. They continued this false relationship for two months. Each time they saw each other,an event which occurred three times per week at the cafeteria, he would pretend he knew her. Meanwhile, all of Tamie's friends were careful not to reveal her name to him. When he finally admitted his ignorance of her name, he was astonished to learn the truth. And the rest is history. Restoring Romance She’s a big city chef who likes cats. He’s a small town mayor who restores antiques. But even with feline allergies at play, true love is nothing to sneeze at. When Ash Hendrix moves into her aunt’s historic home in Romance, Oregon, she’s ready to bring New York City style to the sleepy little town. But her dream of remodeling the old home into a stylish restaurant is cut short when the mayor interferes. Her opposite in every way, the infuriating Adam is the last man she could ever be attracted to. So why can’t she stop thinking about him? Mayor Adam Walker can’t believe the cute blond he met at the festival is the woman who’s trying to destroy his family’s legacy. Initially intent on shutting down her plans, he’s shocked to find himself wanting to fulfill them, instead. But she doesn’t trust him. And why would she, with her traumatic past and his earlier antagonism? Can these two opposites find happily-ever-after? Not without a little help from their friends and family… and a can of pink paint. Fall Into Romance - Pre-Order for Only $0.99! I'm going to be chatting with one of these amazing people each week leading up to the release of Fall Into Romance. I hope you enjoy these interviews as much as I have! Chatting with Stacy Claflin Lost In Romance Hi, Stacy! Thanks so much for coming by to chat. I loved your novella, and I know everyone else will, too. Melanie: Romance, Oregon is a beautiful place with a small-town atmosphere and big personalities. If you could visit Romance yourself, what one shop or person would you want to make sure was on your itinerary? Stacy: I don’t want to give any spoilers, but at the end of my novella Lost in Romance, a new business is opened and I think it would be a ton of fun to visit. Melanie: Animals are a big part of the stories that make up our Fall Into Romance compilation. Tell us a little about the critter(s) in your novella. Stacy: There are several. The first one we’re introduced to is Pookie, a ten-year-old cockapoo who is based on the first pet I ever had. I grew up as an only child, so Pookie was a constant playmate and companion! Later in the novella, we meet some sweet ferrets who help Alisyn out when life doesn’t go the way she expects. Melanie: Which of the characters in your story do you relate to the most? Why is that? Stacy: Definitely Alisyn. She loves kids and wishes she was part of a big family, and that’s how I always felt. My first job was babysitting, and then after that, I worked at preschools. After college, I became a nanny! I loved kids and couldn’t get enough of them. My last “job” before becoming a full-time writer was running a home daycare. Even now, I homeschool my kids and love having them around all the time. I wouldn’t have it any other way! Melanie: What’s the most unique pet you’ve ever had? Stacy: Most everyone would agree ferrets (just like in my novella!) We had five, and they were a lot of fun. I’ve also had hermit crabs and frogs. My uncle owns a pet store that my grandpa opened over 40 years ago, so having pets around is in my blood! Melanie: What’s your favorite snack food or drink to have on hand when you’re writing? Stacy: Always coffee! My husband got me a Keurig for my birthday this year, and it was such a wonderful surprise. I joke that coffee is my love language. Since I wake up to write at 4:15 most mornings, caffeine is a must! Melanie: If you’ve been to Oregon, what did you like best about the state? Stacy: It’s very similar to my home state of Washington, so I love that it feels like home. The Pacific Northwest has its own unique feel (every region does!) and I love the nature we have—everything from the backdrop of the snowcapped mountains to the ocean to the smaller lakes and beaches. People may complain about the rain, but we wouldn’t be surrounded by the evergreen beauty without it. Melanie: If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be? Stacy: A cat. I haven’t had one since high school. They’re the perfect blend of independent and affectionate. I love felines and hope to have another one someday. There’s nothing like curling up with a kitty on a rainy fall day! Melanie: What do you enjoy most about fall? Stacy: Although it’s usually hard for me to let go of the summer, I love the brightly colored leaves and cooler weather which tends to go back and forth between chilly and summer-like. There’s so much beauty and such an array of rich colors, it’s hard not appreciate the fall USA Today bestselling author Stacy Claflin entertains readers in a variety of genres, from paranormal to suspense to sweet contemporary romance. She has been telling stories for as long as she can remember, and as a child would often get into trouble trying to convince friends her wild tales were true. Now she puts her creativity to better use by writing page-turning books that leave readers begging for more. Lost In Romance Work is her life. He’s the boss’s son. Will she risk it all for love? Alisyn has thrown herself into her job to avoid facing her past. It has been perfect so far. And as a bonus, working as a nanny lets her be part of a family that she adores. Her job is perfect until the day her boss’s grown son comes to town and takes her breath away. The last place Shane Rockford wants to be is at his dad’s house with his new family. He just wants to survive the trip without losing his mind or his temper. After meeting his dad’s nanny, Shane finds a compelling reason to be in Romance, Oregon—Alisyn Bennett. Dr. Rockford is furious that Alisyn and Shane are going on a date, and he will stop at nothing to keep them apart. Will Alisyn risk her job–her everything–to be with Shane, or will Shane’s father once again ruin his life? Fall Into Romance - Pre-Order for Only $0.99! Finding Peace was recently announced as a finalist in the Christian Women Reader's Club Reader's Choice Award. This is a wonderful honor, and I'm so thankful to the readers who voted for it. Police Officer Tuck Chandler is good at his job. He’s also good at holding women at arm’s length. Jilted by his fiancée for his dedication to his job, he’s not about to open himself up to hurt like that again. Laurie Blake is a struggling photographer. After growing up in a wealthy family, she’s determined to make it on her own, even if it means doing it the hard way. When Tuck is assigned to a puzzling burglary involving Laurie’s fledgling photography business, he goes into it with his usual perseverance. He wants to help her – if she’ll let him. As the case unfolds and the mystery deepens, another question arises. Will the past get in the way of their future? Many of you took the time to go over to the Christian Women Reader's Club and voted for Finding Peace as your favorite book. Thanks to you, it placed third and has been included in the Literary Lighthouse Award Finals! This is a huge honor, and I'm excited Finding Peace will be one of the few books listed in the final round of voting at the end of the year.
